A Collection of Salvation Scriptures

Updated
 January 2016
I have been praying that God reveal the things in me that hinder my walk with Him. I've asked Him to help me to get rid of all my opinions and replace them with His. I've also been praying for wisdom and understanding in His ways.

In a search for a new church we encountered one that insinuated that Christians can lose their salvation. I immediately decided we shouldn't go there any more because the Bible taught "once saved always saved." (Now hear me out, this gets better.)

In the past I would have just walked away and not thought about it any more. This time I prayed about it. I actually started out praying for the leaders of that church to see the truth.  As I prayed the Lord stopped me and had me analyze where I got my information that made me so sure of the doctrine I held.  I thought back and realized that I was standing firmly on scriptures that were explained to me by pastors and teachers. I had heard the theory, backed by scriptures, and had accepted it as directly from the mouth of God. UH OH! I was shocked!  I was doing exactly what I had warned other people not to do!  I was hanging on to spiritual "truth" that was not verified in my spirit by the Lord!

The first thing I did was look up verses that had the words salvation, saved, eternal life, and other related terms. I started a collection. Then I went through each verse individually and read the verses before and after the targeted verses. I was continually praying for understanding as I was reading.  I had also underlined verses in red that had to do with salvation and I collected those together.

I developed a code and made a notation by each scripture with "A" indicating some kind of action on the part of the believer was necessary, "S" meaning salvation appeared secure, "L" hinting salvation could be lost, "B" showing the scriptures that say you only need to believe to be saved, "G" indicating salvation is nothing more than a gift, and "O" for any other. I'm not putting those codes in this list. If you are searching for the same truths then you need to ask God to show you. I am not going to say salvation is secure and I won't say you can lose your salvation. You need to ask the Lord to show you the truth. After all, this is an issue that has scriptures that point either way. Those standing on both sides of the issue have really good arguments based on scripture.

Right now the most important thing for me to do is to keep asking God what He wants me to be doing, saying, and believing. If I am walking in His will then my salvation is secure no matter whether salvation can be lost or not. I learned something very valuable in this process. I must not hold on to any man-made ideas or traditions. I must make sure that the things I believe have been verified by God as being the truth. My opinions and the opinions of other people, even well-respected Bible scholars, must be rejected and replaced with God's opinions. God wants us to know the truth. He will teach us each individually.

God has gifted people with the gift of teaching. It is not a bad thing for us to listen to them and to learn what they are teaching. It is actually good. God gives each of us a different insight on the same thing. When we share what He has shown us it helps everyone to see the bigger picture. However, if we just listen to what others teach about God and don't read the Bible for ourselves then we are in danger of hanging on to partial truths or to totally fabricated stories. We must be Bible literate and be able to hold everything we hear up to the Word for ourselves. We must be in communication with God so we will be able to hear Him when He says a translation of a verse or a passage of scripture is not correct.

satan is in the business of drawing people away from the Lord so they won't be effective in the harvest of more souls. He cannot get rid of the Bible altogether, but he can cause it to be misinterpreted. Most Bible teachers and pastors are not teaching false information on purpose. They are just passing along what they have heard. They are putting their faith in men instead of in God. The bottom line is that each person is responsible for what he believes. You have a choice of what to do with what you are taught.

In our minds it seems that the issue of salvation is either one way or the other and can't be both ways, right?  I'm not saying this is a fact, but what if God actually desires that some people believe they can lose their salvation?  The Bible does indicate that there is one grievous sin that can cause someone to lose their salvation (Matt 12:31).  If a person was on the path toward committing that sin, would it be in their best interest if they thought there were other ways they could lose their salvation which would cause them to be more careful to be in God's will?  If a person had the attitude of thinking that, once they are saved, they can go out and murder other people, would God want them to believe they could lose their salvation?  I don't know.  I don't think anyone but God knows the answers to those questions.

I heard someone on the radio mention something that gave me food for thought.  Jesus, Himself, taught people about salvation using different terminology as well as what appears to be different methods of obtaining it:

Matthew 19:16-22 & Mark 10:17-26:  obey the commandments and sell all
Mark 10:29-30:  leave house, family, etc. for His sake
Mark 16:16:  believe and be baptized
Luke 11:13:  a gift
Luke 10:25-28:  love God and your neighbor
Luke19:9:  give to the poor and restore what you took from people
Luke 23:40-43:  declare Jesus' innocence ask for remembrance in heaven
John 3:15-17; 6:47; 11:35;20:31:  believe
John 4:14:  drink the water Jesus gives
John 5:24:  hear and believe
John 6:40:  see and believe
John 6:50-58:  eat and drink Jesus' flesh and blood
John 17:23:  Jesus chooses

Now, why do you think He did that?  Did He want to make sure He touched on each person's level of understanding?  Did He want to make sure that each person was able to apply it to his own life based on his own life's experiences?  I don't know!  What I do know is that Jesus didn't say it exactly the same way every time, so maybe it isn't the same way every time for every person.

Is that enough information to cause you to stop and think?  Good.  Let's take these scriptures to God and ask Him to help us understand and interpret them.

Here's the list of salvation scriptures I've accumulated. I'm constantly on the lookout for more related verses and will add them when I find them.

Update 1/14/16
I listened to an audio book on vacation a few years ago.  There was a section that shocked me regarding Heaven and Hell.  The story was about a pastor who died with a group of people from his church.  They each had to stand in front of Jesus and watch a movie of their life.  Most of the people were going to Hell.  The pastor was shocked.  When it was his turn he found out he was going to Hell also.

The reason that people were going to Hell was because of unrepentant sins.  For example, one woman was a gossip.  The Bible specifically warns us not to do that.  The pastor had divorced and remarried.  It wasn't just that he remarried, it was because he told people it was OK to remarry.  He had never repented for divorcing his first wife.

The Bible explains that our sins are forgiven, but if we don't admit we sinned and ask for forgiveness then that sin is still burning within us.

Each of us needs to ask God to show us what we are doing wrong.  We need to ask Him what things in our life are hindering our walk with Him.

EX 32:33 "And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book." [NOTE: This is an Old Testament/pre-Jesus scripture]

MATT 7:21 "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."

MATT 19:17 "And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments."

MATT 19:29 "And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life."

MATT 25:1-13 "Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh."

MARK 16:16 "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."

LUKE 7:50 " And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace."

LUKE 10:27-28 "and [a lawyer] answering [Jesus] said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself. And [Jesus] said unto him, Thou has answered right: this do, and thou shalt live" [inherit eternal life--see vs 25]

LUKE 12:46 "The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers." [also read verses before and after]

LUKE 13:23-24 "Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able."

JOHN 3:1-6 "There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: the same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."

JOHN 3:15-21 "That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."

JOHN 5:39-40 "Search the scriptures [O.T.], for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life."

JOHN 6:27-29 "Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent."

JOHN 6:37; 39-40 "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." [Does God"™s will always prevail?]

JOHN 14:4-6 "And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.  Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

1COR 5:1-5 "It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
